Quilting-An Elixir for the Soul

I recently rediscovered quilting after looking at Pinterest pictures and tutorials.  I remembered how much I used to love hand quilting with a hoop.  I had two unfinished quilts that have sat in my garage in totes.  I have moved these quilts around to eight or nine houses, never getting them out to finish.  I made a runner for Thanksgiving, using the quilt as you go process, and got inspired.  I got out my Irish Chain quilt and finished it.  I then finished the quilt I had started using old shirts, dresses, and clothes from my family.  Then I got out the old Postage Stamp Quilt top shown here.  I got the vintage fabric quilt top at a yard sale many years ago and had always loved it.  I put a border around it and am quilting it now.  I love the soothing motion of rocking the needle back and forth and the transformation of the wrinkled, quilted quilt top as it turns into an heirloom quilt.  Who pieced this lovely quilt by hand many years ago?  What is her story?  Are the scraps from her family and their lives?  It is very much on my mind as I quilt this gorgeous fabric into something soothing and useful. When it is done, I want to use it to sit by the fire, or hang
in my quilt room.  I've got several projects now in the works and can't wait to do more!
